Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing

(PEOPLE WITHOUT SYMPTOMS)

Collingwood Medical is introducing COVID-19 testing for people without any symptoms.

It is now well-understood that COVID-19 infection in many people does not cause any symptoms such as cough and fever. This is known as asymptomatic infection.

Currently, Victorian DHHS/government testing is offered only to people with symptoms and there is no testing available through public health COVID-19 test sites for people without symptoms.

Having a test for COVID-19 for a person without symptoms is appropriate in many circumstances, some of which include:

  • Prior to some elective medical or dental procedures being performed
  • Having been in contact with a person known to be infected with COVID-19
  • Prior to returning home or travelling (when permitted) for people who live outside of Melbourne or Victoria
  • Prior to boarding an international flight with some airlines
  • In some work circumstances (returning to work after isolation, working in close proximity to others or in confined spaces)
  • Providing care for someone who is especially at risk of severe COVID-19 disease such as elderly or immunocompromised people

Collingwood Medical is running clinics each week to test for COVID-19 in asymptomatic people.

For anyone with any symptoms – fevers, chills, cough, runny nose, sore throat etc,  testing will still need to take place at one of the designated DHHS COVID-19 testing sites. Click here to learn more about testing sites for individuals showing COVID-19 symptoms.

Is testing free?

Currently, free testing is only available to people who have symptoms. As Collingwood Medical can only offer COVID-19 testing to people without symptoms, there is a fee involved which is payable at the time of booking the test.

How much is the test?

$180 inclusive of GST.
Please note that pre-payment is required.

I am an employer/business owner and I would like to organise to have my staff tested. Is this possible?

Yes. We can accommodate testing of employees who do not have symptoms and we have the capacity to be able to offer group bookings. To arrange this, please phone Collingwood Medical to discuss with our manager.

How am I notified about my results?

Results are provided by SMS. You will be asked for your contact number and consent to contact you. You must consent to results being communicated to you by SMS as the results will come directly from the pathology laboratory and not through Collingwood Medical.

How long do results take?

Results are generally expected within 3 days, but wait times can be a little longer if there is higher demand.

Do I need to isolate while I wait for my results?

Current DHHS guidelines advise that only people who have symptoms of COVID-19 need to isolate. If you do not have any symptoms then you are not required to isolate yourself while you wait for test results.

What does a negative result mean?

A negative result means that at the time the swab was taken, no COVID-19 virus was detected.

What does a positive result mean?

A positive result means that at the time the swab was taken, COVID-19 virus was detected. A positive test will mean that you have to self-isolate in your home for a period of at least 14 days and follow all directions given to you by the DHHS. A positive result is notified to you, to Collingwood Medical, to your usual doctor and to DHHS, which is required by law.

In the event of a positive test, it is important to ensure that you have adequate support to ensure a supply of essential things like food. It is also important that you have access to medical care, which we can help arrange if you have difficulty.
